Alternative, Tailored, Needs-Based
PSD’s referral programs include a variety of schools and programs for secondary students (grades 7-12), as well as Early Childhood Programs.
Alternative Secondary Programs
Referral or alternative secondary programs provide specialized assistance to students who require a non-traditional academic environment to achieve success.
Centennial High School (Phone 488-4940; Location 330 E. Laurel St.) PSD’s alternative high school, Centennial High School (CHS), presents courses and content that meets required district and state standards (grades 10-12)
CHS helps students with the transition from senior high school to the workplace, and/or to continuing education classes. Programs teach self-reliance, self-support and community involvement.
Through the nationally recognized Discovery classes, students learn and practice specific communication and life skills that serve them throughout their lives. The positive learning environment and service learning programs help students build self-confidence and reminds them of their individual worth.
Mountain View Junior High School (Phone 490-3360; Location 2540 LaPorte Ave.) Mountain View Junior High (MVJH) is a school for students in grades 7-9 teaching educational skills, life skills and strategies that enable students to successfully transition back into a neighborhood school and/or continue in another alternative setting. MVJH draws upon its partnerships with PSD, local agencies and the community to meet the educational and social needs of each student.
Pathways After Hours (Phone 488-6011; Location 201 Impala Drive, Poudre High School) The Pathways After Hours program is offered to Poudre High School students (grades 10-12) who have withdrawn from day classes.
All course work is self-paced, and issues such as work ethics and consistent attendance are emphasized throughout the program. Students must be recommended to the program by the dean of students and/or their counselor.
General Education Development (GED) preparation and pre-testing is offered to PSD students and community members. Daytime and evening classes are available.
Poudre Transition Center (Phone 490-3295; Location 220 N. Grant Ave., Fullana Learning Center) Poudre Transition Center (PTC) is an alternative high school (grades 10-12) that helps prepare students to transition back into the traditional high school setting for graduation. Outside independent study classes are available to students who wish to work while attending classes required for graduation. The center also provides GED pre-testing for students.
Teen Parenting Program (Phone 488-8220; Location 3400 Lambkin Way, Fort Collins High School) The PSD Teen Parent Program is located at Fort Collins High School and is open to any PSD student who is pregnant or parenting. The program offers specialized classes in pregnancy, child development and parenting, as well as basic academics required for graduation.
